My Extra Life 2014 – Update #3

It’s finished!!

I started on my Extra Life grand raffle prize back in May (or maybe the very end of April) and last night I made the last stitches on the Super Mario Bros 3 World 1 Map cross stitch masterpiece. It only took every extra minute of my life for 3 months, my video game backlog grew by four or five games, and I jabbed myself at least a dozen times. But if it helps the kids at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, then it is so worth it. All that’s left now is to find a nice frame.

I did the math and if someone asked me to make this piece as a commission it would run almost $600 plus supplies. Since every $5 donation nets you 1 entry into the raffle, the more you donate the better your odds. $100 donation is 20 entries and really bumps up your odds. And is way easier on your wallet.

But I am still working on runner up/non-gamer prize options. The toughest part is finding something for my non-gamer relatives/older donors who might want something a little different. I’ve thought about a nice geisha or the gingerbread house I posted a link to last time but am having a hard time deciding on which to make, or something completely different. I have settled on 2 runner up prizes: your choice of any three of the chibi Final Fantasy patterns I have (Vivi, Cloud, Sephiroth, Tifa, Yuffie, Aerith, Reno, Rude, Vincent, or Zack), or any one of the My Little Pony patterns I have (Applebloom, Applejack, Derpy Hooves, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, or Twilight Sparkle). These of course would be stitched versions. Runner up prizes would not be framed but may be mounted to embroidery board for shipping. Depending on the amount of donations received, I will either have 1 or 2 runner up draws.

Here is a finished version of Vivi from FFIX.

As we get closer to October and announcements regarding Holiday 2014 game release dates, I am starting to form a schedule in my mind. I’ve already committed to playing Uncharted and I’m figuring that will kick off my marathon for the first 3 hours or so. Destiny will probably take up at least another 3 hours, which means I have 18 hours of streaming entertainment to figure out. Suggestions are extremely welcome!

Finally, because of how awesome everyone is, I’ve decided to bump my goal for this year up to $1000. That’s double what I had done last year and hoped to match in 2014 but I think that I have super awesome friends and family members out there who can help me make this happen.

For the kids!
