Extra Life 2014 Post-Mortem

Extra Life 2014 is in the books, and damn was it a fun one! =)

First off I need to thank everyone who donated their money, time, and/or support as I managed to stay awake the entire 25 hours of my marathon after a brief 2 hour nap. 3.5 bottles (500ml) of Pepsi were consumed, a meal of Five Guys inhaled, and countless numbers of songs sung during that time, many of which I’m sure I made up. Thanks to everyone who tuned into my broadcast, messaged me with comments and questions. I apologize for the weird audio issues that happened during Uncharted 2, but hey, I FINALLY PLAYED AN UNCHARTED GAME! =)

As of this moment I am sitting at $885, only $115 away from my $1000 goal. If you haven’t donated yet and would like to, Extra Life is keeping our 2014 pages open until the end of December. Thanks to the generosity of some good friends, I have some game codes available to give away and am asking for a minimum of $5 to get your hands on one. I’ve got some Slender, Walking Dead Pinball, Costume Quest, Bloodrayne Betrayal, and Double Dragon Neon codes up for grabs.

I’d also like to congratulate my raffle winners: Albert C for getting the grand prize Super Mario 3 World 1 map, Lincoln T and Vickey C who are getting some cross stitchery, and John R and Kim B who will be getting a bunch of Bath & Bodyworks goodies. I’m already looking all over the place for new raffle ideas for next year, so if you have suggestions or freebies you’d like to donate for me to give away, shoot me an email or post in the comments.

Stay tuned for updates and information for Extra Life 2015 coming sometime in the start of the New Year. =)

My Extra Life 2014 – Update #2

On October 25th, 2014, I will once again participate in the epic 25 hour video game marathon that is Extra Life, and it’s my sincere hope that you’ll find it in your heart to support me with a tax deductible donation that will go directly to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

I’m hoping to hit the $500 mark again this year and so I have decided to raffle off some cross stitching in exchange for donations. The grand prize is a tapestry of the Super Mario Bros 3 World 1 Map, which looks like this:

SMB3-Level1

It’s a little stretched but the original is super tiny

Now that I’m finishing up the second last “panel” I figured it was as good a time as any to post an updated picture here (which I will update on my official Extra Life page as well). Only 9 more dancing bushes to go!!!

As I’m nearing the end of stitching on this beast, my thoughts turn to a secondary prize option for people who are not necessarily into video games and so I’ve been searching through my magazines and internet patterns to see if I can find anything to work on next. Leading the running (in my mind) are two very cute Gingerbread House and Haunted House patterns from Cloudsfactory, and one of two very detailed geisha patterns from one of my World of Cross Stitching magazines.

A reminder that for every $5 donation you’ll receive 1 raffle ticket in exchange.

I’ve also committed to my first game selection for Extra Life 2014: the original Uncharted PS3 game. After years of flack from my friend Patrick for not having played this, I picked up all three from GameStop the other week and have promised to play the first installment for at least a few hours this October. I have a very strong feeling that Destiny and Dragon Age Inquisition will eat up a good chunk of my 25 hours as well, fingers crossed there are no delays.

If you have any suggestions for which secondary prize I should stitch or other games you’d like to see me play, please let me know!

I’ve been working on the project for a few weeks now and I must say it is coming along nicely. There may be a couple of colours I need to adjust as I move towards the next set of panels, as I am already noticing that the locked door has a dark brown in it on the pattern.

This is the first quarter of the tapestry. Shiny!

Looking pretty sweet, right?

Now the big problem is figuring out the ticket to $$$ ratio for donations. I’m thinking 1 ticket for every $5 increment is a pretty fair exchange, considering this is a very time consuming and detailed piece. Yes, let’s go with that.

Extra Life donations are already open so feel free to donate now and/or as often as you’d like. Because this is for the kids, after all. =)
