Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai (Haganai)

Kodaka, Yozora and Sena playing video games

Some people just don’t make friends very easily, especially when you are a blond Half transfer student who looks like a Yankee. So when said transfer student, one Kodaka Hasegawa, walks into a classroom and witnesses another social outcast, Yozora  Mikazuki, talking to her imaginary friend, he quickly finds himself a founding member of the Neighbour’s Club. By forming this club, Yozora and Kodaka hope to change their social situations by making new friends and working on their social skills.

Kodaka soon finds he is the only male in a female dominated club as they are joined by the school chairman’s daughter Sena, a fan of dating sims and other eroge video games which allow her a virtual chance at making female friends, and the sex crazed mad scientist freshman Rika. Even the only other male in the club is more female, as Yukimura is conned into dressing and behaving like a female in his attempts to become more manly and strong like Kodaka. The club is overseen by a 10 year old genius nun, Sister Maria, who despite her smarts is regularly tricked by Yozora and forms a rivalry for Kodaka’s attention with his younger sister Kobato.

Neighbour’s Club hits the beach

Every episode, the group tries to tackle some sort of social task, such as karaoke, swimming at the public pool, or playing video games together. You can also be guaranteed that at least once per episode Yozora and Sena will get into at least one fight, and Rika will make some type of sexual advance or reference toward Kodaka. As the story progresses, you come to find that Kodaka and Yozora weren’t always friendless; Kodaka just doesn’t recognize his old playmate.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai is based on the original Haganai light novels by Yomi Hirasaka.
